You can get hearing loss from a single loud sound (like firecrackers) near your ear or, more often, from damage caused by being around loud sounds often. Activities like listening to music on your phone or device or going to fitness classes can damage your hearing if the volume is close to the maximum. The louder the sound, the shorter the amount of time it takes for hearing loss to occur.
